Born Daniel Christopher KIdney in Akron,Ohio, 1959; Saint Thomas Hospital
Two older Brothers: Robert Kidney - The Numbers Band (15-60-75) Singer/songwriter/Guitar
Jack Kidney - The Numbers Band; Harmonica, Sax, Keyboards, Guitar, Drums (www.numbersband.com for more on these guys)

Dan lived in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio until second grade. Then the family moved to Silver Lake, Ohio.

Dan started taking piano lessons at five years old. Two lessons a week. His mother played piano by ear and could play anything she heard. His father listened to music all the time and had a large record collection. Brother Robert played guitar, so there was always one in the house. Brother Jack had a drum set in the basement, so Dan played those as well. Robert played coffee houses in the 60's. Jack had bands in the 70's. Dan was the youngest brother, so all of the music filtered down to him. Robert and Jack joined forces in 15-60-75, the Numbers Band. At the age of 13, Dan would go to the shows with his borthers and they would let him play a few solos on the Hammond B-3. Dan loved it, a real taste of performance and pressure. This was in Kent, Ohio, downtown on Water Street. Kent State University off campus. The club was packed all the time. His brothers didn't want him in the biz, they knew all too well the downside. Dan saw Bob Marley and the Wailers in 1976 when they played on the same bill as The Numbers Band. Backstage with the band before anyone knew who the hell Bob Marley was. And on and on. Band meetings, shows, people and places too many to recount. Knowledge about the music world that was there through osmosis.

In eighth or ninth grade, Dan, who didn't do all that well in school, was taken out of study hall and put into a room with a piano. The teacher, Mrs. Arnold, thought this would better serve Dan. At some point there was a school assembly and Mrs. Arnold forced the school to let Dan play the piano for the whole school. Dan would never forget this because the whole student body gave him a standing ovation - the roar of the crowd deafened the teachers. He stood up and took his first bow. That was it. No turning back. Dan may not have been good at math but this was where he was going.

Dan graduated in 1978 from Cuyahoga Falls High School. Studied art, oil painting, acting for three years and went to every rock and roll show that came through Cleveland and Akron. Led Zeppelin,Yes, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, Jeff Beck, Steve Miller. Lets put it this way... if there was a band on tour he saw them at least once if not many times.

1978 brought in the punk era... the Ramones, The Clash, etc.

1980 - Dan's mother passed.

1981 - Dan put together the first band of his own, Dan Kidney and the Pulsations. At one of the first shows Stiv Baters was there. Stiv Baters was the leader of the Dead Boys.

1983 - Moved to a Passaic, NJ $50 a week rooming house.

1984 - Moved to Ridgefield Park. NJ and started the New Jersey edition of Dan Kidney and the Pulsations.

1985 - First official line up was Dan Kidney vocals, David Kraemer guitar, Don Courter guitar, Kenny Colgate bass, David Calabreese drums, Joey Latour keys. This band went on to play over 500 shows between 1985-1989. Recorded a single Never Let Up and a B-side. Bruce Hensal was the producer on this and the album titled the same. Bruce was chief engineer on the Eagles' Hotel California album. The Never Let Up CD was one of the first CDs done locally, before most people even had a CD player, but sales finally picked up not long after. The Pulsations played all over New Jersey. The Dirt Club in Bloomfield was home for 2 year; every Wednesday and Saturday. All the top clubs in Jersey, the Stone Pony, New York's Kenny's Castaways every New Years Eve, the Bitter End, and on and on.

1989 - New lineup; Joe and Don quit. Dan got John Callahan, a real guitar slinger.

1989 - 1994. The Pulsations played 200 shows on average a year. Hard working and hard driving people made up this band. These guys - Dave Kraemer, Dave Callbreese (aka 'Dr. Chud', who went on to become the drummer of the Misfits), John Callahan, Kenny Colgate are some of the top players in the music biz, period. These guys played hard and can keep up with anyone out there. They were were true pros.

1992 - Dan's lung collapsed at a show. Slow recovery and slow progress but a CD was done - Night People.

!994 - Dan calls the band before New Year's to end the Pulsations. Tired and spent from health problems and giving all of 25 years to music, he takes time to live some life outside of performing in a band.

2001 - Dan gets involved in a school play at his son's school, Lenox Elementary in Pompton Lakes, NJ. Due to the fact that September 11, 2001 has happened, the school organizer of the play wants a Bruce Springsteen song. So Dan contacts a Springsteen cover band to do the show. Two weeks before the play, the cover band cancels the show. Now the pressure is on, no band for his son's school play. What is there to do? Enter Jim Lucyk's bass, Tom Woods’ guitar, Doug Burns’ drums. They agree to help Dan out and learn the cover songs for the show. They do the Haunted Halls show. At the end of this show, Dan is going to go back to the quiet life...Jim Lucyk said "Lets keep playing together". Everyone agreed, and Crashdaddies was born.

Crashdaddy was a race horse. Dan is like a race horse, out to pasture for a little bit but right back on the track.
